Kadan Automotive Technical College Sendai Building 7

Miyagi 2006

This is the building of Kadan Automotive Technical College, located in a residential area south west of Sendai station. The building is divided into two wings, one containing the student hall and the other for classrooms, which are connected by the entrance gallery. Overall, the scale of the building harmonizes with the surrounding residential area. In order to open the hall up to the students as a lounge, a large staircase and a large opening with sliding doors have been built on the campus side, creating a wide plaza unified with the outside. On the northern side, where there are views of the Sendai city area, an open space has been created using large glass screens. Large prestressed concrete girders are used in the hall, realizing a 22-meter space without columns. With the classrooms, the dynamism of the RC structure is expressed through the use of flat slabs, RC earthquake-resisting walls, and solid steel columns.
