Atorium NibanchoA design like that of an enclosed street調2( )This is an urban style apartment building constructed in a historic upscale residential area in the center of Tokyo. This plan redefines the method used to achieve efficient use of the site and actively incorporates interior courtyards, vaulted ceilings etc. as elements of architectural space to both secure privacy and create a very open living environment. The highly symmetrical building shape is based on geometric forms. The volume is carefully divided to provide harmony with the surrounding cityscape, with a combination of cedar panel formwork exposed concrete finish and border tile out of consideration for the upscale surroundings. The lobby space that passes through the center of the building comprises an enormous enclosed canyon-like space that creates a street-like scenery with a straight line of sight all the way through, surrounded by the green environment outside. The residences admit light and breeze from two directions, the inner courtyard and roof balcony, providing them with an open-ness like that of a single-story dwelling.
