新C棟A棟D棟B棟新F棟新E棟N4421335島田総合病院新C棟Shimada General Hospital (New C Wing)病院の新たなブランドイメージの創出‐街並みと呼応するファサード‐Creation of hospital’s new brand image - Façade design that blends in with the cityscape千葉県銚子市に建つ、総合病院の増築計画である。80年近い歴史の中、10棟近い建替・増築が繰り返され、その内今回の計画は2001年からスタートした3期に渡る新棟計画の最終章である。新C棟では自費診療を主体とする健診(人間ドック)・産科病棟の強化という命題に対し、病院のブランドイメージを発信する建築デザインが求められた。新C棟は幅4mの狭小道路に面した位置に計画され、病院群の大きなスケールと周辺の低層住居群との突然の断層という都市的課題に対し、低層住居群の空隙に呼応したリズミカルな開口部と、縦目地・横ボーダーによるボリューム分割デザインにより増築低層部の円弧状壁「面」に微小なスケールを与え、街並みに溶け込む豊かな街路空間を生み出すことを試みている。(北原 祥三)This is an addition to a general hospital in the city of Choshi in Chiba Prefecture. Originally constructed nearly eighty years ago, the hospital has seen nearly ten buildings rebuilt or added on to the complex. The current addition is the final chapter of a three-phase building construction plan that began in 2001. The new Building C is designed to provide expanded comprehensive medical checkup capabilities (primarily for patients without insurance) and a new maternity ward, and it needed an architectural design that could communicate the hospital's quality image. The new Building C was planned for construction on a site facing a narrow road measuring four meters in width. To solve the urban problem of the abrupt "fault line" between the large-scale hospital buildings and the low-rise residential buildings in the surrounding area, the new addition was provided with rhythmical apertures as a response to the void of the low-rise residential buildings. Moreover, the volume separation design created using vertical joints and a horizontal borderline provides a small scale to the plane of the curved wall in the low-rise addition. The resulting design creates a rich street environment that is integrated with the surrounding cityscape.
