The building houses the Children's Developmental Studies Department of the Faculty of Developmental Science which is devoted to comprehensive education and study regarding childrearing problems encountered from early childhood through school age. The outdoor terrace with natural lighting and breezes to create a comfortable environment that will become a venue for "dialogue." The building has flat slab eaves to block direct sunlight and ensure gentle indirect lighting throughout the day, and a balcony created using breeze soleil columns. The building also takes advantage of the prevailing winds blowing across the Sanuki Plain to create a natural ventilation system called a "window chimney" system, in which the breeze that enters the classrooms is funneled through the corridors and escapes upward through ducts at the end. The system is designed to require the students themselves to open and close the windows to adjust the air flow, thereby fostering an awareness of the environment. Through these mechanisms, the architectural design aims at producing a "dialogue" with other people and nature on the part of the students who attend the university.
