In this particular competition, the task was to design a fashion museum in a 100-meter-high building located on Omotesando, one of the world's most prominent avenues. The question was how to gently design a "monster" of a building that would have an enormous impact not only 本の田の字型住宅をもとに展示の変化に対応する小さな平面、全体を貫く十字の構造体を提案。開口を限定することで内部に陰影の変化を作り出し、内外装は凹凸を持たせコントラストにより表情が異なるものとした。(吉田 泰洋)主催者:ARQUITECTUM・早稲田大学芸術学校受賞者:吉田泰洋・梁田真史・奥山陽子(以上、竹中工務店設計部)Host of competition: ARQUITECTUM, Art and Architecture School of Waseda UniversityPrize winner: Yasuhiro Yoshida, Masafumi Yanada, and Youko OkuyamaCOMPETITION'S TOKYO IMAGE表参道に建つ100mのファッションミュージアム 入賞案ARCHITECTURE INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION tokyo2010 FASHION MUSEUM IN OMOTESANDO STREET 3rd PRIZE "kind monster"on Omotesando but on the entire world. In search of this kind of gentleness, Takenaka began the design process with the concept of "a house in the midst of the original landscape." The "monster" takes the form of an abstract house with a height of 100 meters. It was decided to use the backlit silhouette produced on Omotesando as the main façade in order to create a symbolic design whose expression would change with the movement of the sun. The proposal also used a floor plan with a cross structure in the center, based on the four-square checkerboard floor plan of a traditional Japanese house. This type of floor plan can be easily adapted to accommodate different exhibitions. Limiting the number of apertures produced changing patterns of light and shadow inside, and the contrast provided by uneven textures provided a different expression to the exterior and interior walls. The beauty provided by shadows was combined with the simple architectural design to produce a diverse array of spaces. The aim was to achieve a structure that possesses a gentle power resulting from the simplicity of the design.
