It restores the topography that had been adversely affected by existing buildings, bringing the inherent natural beauty and scenery of the region back to life. The designers saw this facility as a vantage point from which to view this beautiful expanse, and the dining room and other common areas in particular have been projected far out from the slope, creating an open stage that floats above the greenery and make the people inside feel that they are one with nature. In this way, the dormitory communicates the changing of the seasons and the Japanese sensitivity to nature to foreign students in an easy to understand manner. (Isao Machida)Works
