123N総本山知恩院 和順会館・参道整備Wajun - Kaikan and the main approach to Chion - inやすらぎの場へと誘う参道と白きお堂A white temple and the main approach to a place of peace浄土宗総本山知恩院は、法然上人800回忌記念事業として、檀信徒会館の建替と参道の整備を実施、宿泊機能・大広間・ギャラリー・ホール等を備えた施設と、国宝三門前の京都東山一帯の自然との繋がりあるパブリック空間の創出を目指した。内部空間に自然の光・風・水を積極的に取り込むため、敷地の高低差を活かした光庭やせせらぎを展開した。古地図にもその姿が描かれた歴史ある参道は、駐車場として使われ本来の姿が失われていたが、全体をスロープ化することでレベル差を解消し、国宝三門へ焦点が絞られたユニバーサルな連続空間として現代に甦らせることを意図した。(小椎尾 龍介)This project was conducted for Chion-in, the main temple of the Jodo-shu sect of Buddhism, on the 800th anniversary of the death of St. Hounen, the founder of Jodo-shu. Its aim was the reconstruction of the Danshinto Kaikan and improvement of the main approach, as well as the construction of a facility with lodgings, a great hall, an art gallery, an auditorium and other functions. The goal was also to create a public space in front of the sanmon (main gate), which has been designated a National Treasure, that is connected to the natural environment of Kyoto's Higashiyama district. The elevation differences of the site were used to provide a light court and a murmuring stream, actively incorporating natural lighting, breezes and water into the interior space. The main approach has a long history and is shown on old maps, but it had lost its original form and was being used as a parking lot. The entire area was made a sloping site to eliminate the level differences and resurrect the main approach in the modern age, as a universal continuous space focused on the National Treasure main gate.
