早稲田大学40号館Waseda University Bldg.40環境機能と空間機能を併せ持つファサードFaçade that combines environmental functions with spatial functions低炭素社会の実現に向け、超低消費電力、高性能な国際競争力の高い次世代型マルチコア・メニーコアのハードウェア、ソフトウェア、応用技術の研究開発と人材の育成を目指した研究施設である。将来にわたる研究内容の変化へのフレキシブルな対応を追及し、1スパンをインフラの供給単位とする「ユニットラボ方式」を採用している。また、崖に面する敷地形状に対応しながら、基礎免震構造を採用することで、重要研究施設としての安全性を高めている。早稲田通りに面して都市に開かれたファサードには、「早稲田大学の新しい顔にふさわしい清新なデザイン」と「研究施設の室内環境を調整するためのフィルター」としての性能が求められた。本施設では、「縦軸回転ルーバー」という一つの建築要素によって「外装と内装」、「環境性能と空間機能」という多層なテーマに取り組んだ。(鈴木 重則)With the aim of achieving a low carbon society, this research facility engages in research and development of hardware, software and applied technologies for next-generation multi-core and many-core computers that offer ultra-low power consumption and high performance and are competitive on the world stage, as well as in personnel training. The "unit laboratory system", in which a single span is employed as the supply unit for the infrastructure, was used to give the facility the flexibility to respond to the changing nature of research content now and in the future. In addition to a design that accommodates the configuration of the site which is located on the edge of a cliff, a base isolation structure was adopted to increase the safety of this vital research facility. The site is located in a corner of the Kikui-cho Campus that faces Waseda-dori and is open to the city. The façade needed to have a fresh design in keeping with a new "face" for Waseda University, as well as building performance that acts as a filter to regulate the interior environment of the research facility. A single architectural element of the facility, the louvers that rotate around a vertical axis, were used to incorporate multilayered themes such as the exterior design versus the interior design and environmental performance versus spatial performance.
