(垣谷 伸彦)Located in a part of the street that stretches from the grove of a Shinto shrine, this building has what appears to be a forest of trees covering the rooftop. The trees appear to be floating, with the greenery connected to the zelkova trees that line the street. The building incorporates the distinctive atmosphere of Omotesando, where people can experience shopping beneath sunshine filtering through foliage, and offers a new landmark that integrates building and trees. The forest floating in the sky is cut off by the design in the low-rise section. As a result, the shops along the street are integrated with the trees that line the street, creating a separate higher brand value, while the upper level volume that appears to be floating in the sky achieves a symbolic quality. This forest located thirty meters above ground level produces a shower effect in the building as a whole, enabling it to exist as an environmental mechanism that stresses both the logic of commerce and the era of coexistence with nature. The farther one goes toward the outer edge, the more the floor rises like the bottom of a curved pot, and the presence of the trees planted around the perimeter guides one's gaze naturally up to the sky. The result is a comfortable environment, like being beneath one roof, in which people share the same time and place and a new type of integration — both person-to-person and between people and nature — is created.
