(秋山 裕子)In August 2012, the Fukagawa Hachiman Festival, one of the three major festivals of ancient Edo, was held. Regularly held once every three years, the festival was postponed due to the Great East Japan Earthquake of 2011, and this time it was held as a festival to pray for a rapid recovery from the disaster. The Emperor and Empress attended the festival and viewed the mikoshi (portable shrine) procession stretching along Eitai-dori from a viewing stand. The viewing stand, constructed of simple wood, was designed to be appropriate for a sophisticated Edo festival. The surrounding beams on both sides of the columns were placed in the ridge span direction, forming a foundation for the members placed on top (floor joists, floor, beams and roof purlin). As the construction had to be completed in a mere eight days, the joints were bolted together, and a tent roof was used to ensure a bright interior for the viewing stand. Because the festival was held to pray for disaster reconstruction, columns from Higashishirakawa-gun in Fukushima Prefecture were used, and materials from the Ishinomaki plywood industry that had managed a rapid recovery were used as the structural plywood for the walls and floor. To commemorate the visit of the Imperial couple, the second story section was reconstructed on the grounds as a single-story rest house. The handrail supports and coping were fashioned into a triangular shape and combined with the floor joints to finish the walls. In addition, the first floor beams were made into benches to be placed in the rest house, and the first floor columns were fashioned into pen trays for distribution as commemorative souvenirs. In this way, every part of the structure was preserved or reused. The rest house affords an excellent view of the main hall, and it stands silently as if watching over the reconstruction progress and the prosperity of Fukagawa.(Yuko Akiyama)建築主:富岡八幡宮所在地:東京都江東区主要用途:観覧席設計施工:竹中工務店・設計:水野吉樹・秋山裕子・構造:麻生直木・花井厚周・作業所長:佐久間徹29仮設の御観覧所30観覧席例大祭当日Topic28
