This is one of the three Zen sects in Japan.Bunkaden, finished by ordinary roof tile color within the monastery where there are countless important cultural assets, stands concealed within an earthen wall among trees. Windows in the four sides of the building introduce diffused natural light into the interior of the building. At the bottom of the exhibition space which is covered with a bright red fabric, natural light that is repeatedly refracted in specially shaped light ducts is fed in behind the fabric. The fabric is given a treatment to give it pleats, and by vapor deposition of metal onto its rear surface, the aspect of the light changes with position and time, and with weather and season.
