In this religious building, which requires long life, it was essential to have a scheme that does not rely on air conditioning plant as much as possible. Taking into consideration the local characteristics of Ota City in Gumma Prefecture with its cold strong winds in winter and hot summers due to foehn winds, in summer the underside of the large roof is ventilated to insulate the building from radiative heat, and in winter an “absorptive large roof” is designed using solar heat as residual heat for room heating.
