The theme of “clad in light and shadow” was employed from the outward appearance to the signs to give the building a distinctive look. A deeply chiseled appearance is created by the horizontal lines of the prestressed concrete slabs used for the exterior (including the interlayer sections and the maintenance corridors) and the 180 vertical aluminum louvers placed so as to connect the floors. The goal was to create diverse expressions through the sunlight control functions, the sunlight and the changes in people’s vantage points. The building also has regularly shaped exclusive occupancy areas and competitive specifications that include an emergency generator that can be operated 24 hours a day, desiccant air conditioning, low-e glass, corrugated steel earthquake-resisting walls, and the use of active tuned mass dampers (ATMD) to reduce vibrations caused by wind. The result is a competitive office building that combines a landmark presence with outstanding specifications.
