In recognition of its historical importance, an exterior system that combined the hand-grinding and hand-polishing of artisans (made possible by the passing on of expertise from one generation to the next) with the functions of a next-generation office building was employed. Attenuation compartments for damping devices were provided within the building core, and the 3.6 m flat columns of the outer shell were connected to the large beams with pins to prevent out-of-plane horizontal force from being transmitted, enabling a small diameter of 600 x 300 mm. Outer wall precast concrete panels with a depth of 450 mm were fabricated in a shape that encloses these small diameter flat columns, and an air conditioning system for each span was provided. The precast concrete panels that connect the structure and equipment serve as the exterior that provides ventilation, resulting in a 30 x 10 m regularly shaped office space.
