The goal was to achieve a model high-density apartment building for a post-COVID world by means of pathway and environmental design as well as the construction method. Units of two and four apartments are connected by outdoor corridors to form separate buildings on opposite sides of a central courtyard, promoting"proactive" no-contact communication by means of the outdoor pathway spaces. Simulations were conducted to optimize the wind environment of the building overall and the light environment of the inner courtyard in order to determine building height and placement. A prestressed concrete wall structure was adopted, and the prestressed concrete for the skeleton was fabricated at the site. Half precast and half prestressed concrete panels were combined to reduce labor requirements by 20% or more as compared to conventional reinforced concrete construction, and to achieve a 27t reduction in CO2 emissions.
