The building had been a beloved landmark of the community for 50 years. A Special Urban Renaissance District was employed to construct a high-rise building containing a hotel — The Royal Park Iconic Nagoya —as well as offices, a public hall, conference rooms and commercial establishments. Due to the lack of tall buildings in the area, the development plan emphasized the outstanding views from the building. The design of the lower floor section was made to resemble the solar screens of the former Chunichi Building, emphasizing the view of, and view from, the adjacent Hisaya-odori Park. It is hoped that this development will help to trigger a revival in the Sakae area which has been overshadowed in recent years by development in the Nagoya Station area to the west, and that the new building will be beloved for 50 years as was its predecessor.
