For this contemporary building that contrasts with the modern history and regional character of Sanjo-dori, the facade was given rich depth and material texture, with constantly changing shadows on the surface that enhance the surrounding cityscape. The greenery in the passageways and central courtyard, reminiscent of a mountain setting, can be glimpsed from the bustling street, inviting visitors to enter. In the inner space, the depth of the site is used to accentuate the relationship between the front and the interior, creating a seamless connection between the restaurants that are open to passers-by on the street and the highly private hotel space that is illuminated by light from the central courtyard. Multiple changes in perspectives and air volume in spaces are incorporated into the flow planning and sequence, encouraging a feeling of attentiveness toward other locations. The successful integration of art and architecture is the result of close collaboration with the interior designer.
