Takenaka Corporation

To accelerate digital transformation, Takenaka Corporation (President: Masato Sasaki) established “Building4.0 Digital Platform” in the cloud environment and began operating it in November 2021. The platform centrally stores all data related to business operations, human resources, accounting, and so forth across the entire building project life cycle from business development to maintenance, and it serves as a foundation for advanced use through AI and other means.
By the end of 2022, we will digitize all our operations to realize our vision for 2030 through digital transformation by utilizing “Building4.0 Digital Platform.” We will continue to accumulate data and acquire new data to improve the accuracy of AI and expand its scope of application. With the aim of creating a digital twin of buildings and business processes through “Building4.0 Digital Platform,” we intend to lead the digital transformation of the construction industry.

Building4.0 Digital Platform

“Building4.0 Digital Platform” is an integrated platform, consisting of a group of applications and a data platform, which integrates Data Lake*1 and IoT, BI*2, and AI. In the data platform, all data related to business, such as business development, design, estimation, cost management, construction management, FM support services, human resources, and accounting, are accumulated in a unified manner, and this supports decision-making through visualization by BI, analysis and prediction by AI, etc. It is linked with a variety of applications that are being developed in sequence to realize advanced data utilization over a wide range of operations.
By integrating the data accumulated in the past into a "Building4.0 Digital Platform,” AI can be used in project work and business management. For example, in the design field, we have achieved trial calculations and cross-sectional studies in structural design, and in the area of construction, we have achieved projections for construction management personnel.Through “Building4.0 Digital Platform,” we will work with partner companies to consolidate and accumulate the status of the delivery and installation of construction materials using IoT, and collaborate with BIM to promote various initiatives aimed at realizing a construction digital twin, which will lead to the utilization of data in facility management.
We will continue to digitize our operations in conjunction with ongoing development of Takenaka advanced construction systems and promotion of BIM utilization. We will also continue to advance AI with vast amounts of data to improve the efficiency of our business, including significant productivity improvements in making things, and create new value for society and customers.

  • *1Data Lake: A data management system for centrally aggregating and accumulating large amounts of data
  • *2Business Intelligence (BI): A tool for gathering, analyzing, and visualizing large amounts of data stored in an enterprise

In order to realize "Vision for 2030 through Digital Transformation," we will deepen collaboration between "Building4.0 Digital Platform," which we have just established, “Buil-comi,” which is a service platform for smart buildings we have already developed, and “Construction Robot Platform,” which is a platform for autonomous driving and remote management of robots; and we will proceed with comprehensive development from construction to facility operations. We will also promote cooperation with various data platforms in local communities, and develop business and data utilization beyond the framework of companies, thereby aiming to provide new building and urban creation services as an "integrated engineering firm for urban creation."
