Waseda University Tokorozawa Campus Building 101
Saitama 2009Building 101 has been positioned at the end of the long axis of the Tokorozawa Campus, which is surrounded by rich greenery. The approach to the building is over a three-dimensionally-curved symbolic bridge, with the motif of "a single leaf." The exterior screen, designed with the image of a "veil waving in the wind," is composed of aluminum punching metal, and with an opening ratio of 40 percent, ensures both a reduction in heat load and brightness inside. Gently-curved units randomly build up on each other, and the shades and shadows and the softness of the design give the building a delicate expression.
