NIPPON ZETTOC Sagamihara Office

Kanagawa 2008

Located and planned on a former factory land in front of Hashimoto Station on the outskirts of Tokyo, this is a research center and plant for this pharmaceutical manufacturer. As the building borders on commercial and residential areas, consideration for the immediate surroundings was taken by aiming for a pharmaceutical factory that has an urban design. The research and administration building that faces the road was planned in a square formation with the center having a courtyard that facilitates proactive communication between the administrative, research and quality control departments in the galleries that surround the courtyard. Openings have been designed in the exterior walls, consisting of wall columns and wall girders, according to the functions of the internal rooms. This allows fresh air to flow in and exhaustion to flow out into the courtyard, realizing efficient facilities planning. Eaves around the exterior provide shade from the sun and shelter from rain. The stainless steel vertical drains and the level ends of the eaves are designed to form an additional elevation surface adding depth to the building.
