Ⅰ. Concept and promotion of health management

1. Takenaka Corporation's concept of health management

In order to contribute to the realization of a sustainable society and promote corporate activities that have a shared sense of values with society, Takenaka Corporation has made its Management Philosophy its social mission. Based on our Company Policy, we have established items for all executives and employees to strive for, and we are working on specific practices that will contribute to health management.

2. Corporate Code of Conduct: “Realizing comfortable workplace environments”

We are promoting the creation comfortable workplace environments under a specific action guideline, “Create workplaces where diversity and individuality are respected; ensure environments where it is easy to work, and mental and physical health and safety are considered; and realize enriched, comfortable environments for personal growth.”

3. Takenaka’s guiding principle for health management

Guided by the principle, “Promote health-conscious management along with realizing safe and comfortable work environments,” we will continue to implement measures to improve the physical and mental health of our employees as well as the safety and comfort of work environments. Through the practice of health management, we aim to improve labor productivity and labor participation rates by reducing presenteeism and absenteeism, thereby continually improving corporate value.

4. Promotion system

A panel of experts has been established as an advisory body to the president to promote safety and health throughout the company under the control of committees at each branch and office. In promoting this initiative, the Human Resources Department, company doctors, the Health and Safety Committee, and Health Insurance Society are working together to maintain employee health management and health promotion measures, and strengthen systems.

Ⅱ. Major initiatives for health management

1. Implementation of health checkups and stress checks, and enhancement of health management

We are working to improve the mental and physical health management of our employees through the following measures.

  1. Centralization of health checkup information
  2. We have built a system that comprehensively judges the results of health checkups and stress checks, and then runs the PDCA cycle for the mental and physical health of our employees.

2. Balancing preventive care and treatment

We are working to further enhance our system for promoting employee health through the following measures.

  1. Establishing clinics and full-time company health care staff
  2. Company doctors interviewing employees who work long hours to assist with measures against overwork
  3. Specific health guidance
  4. Collaboration with the All Japan National Health Insurance Association of Engineering and Construction

3. Mental health care

In addition to primary prevention measures to maintain mental health, we are also taking appropriate secondary prevention measures through the following:

  1. Establishing counseling and mental health rooms within the company
  2. Conducting individual interviews with employees who make the request based on the results of stress checks as stipulated by the Industrial Safety and Health Act
  3. Individual interviews by company doctors at each main office and branch for employees with mental illnesses
  4. Training and e-learning for line managers to check on the mental health of subordinates as well as for self-checks by rank-and-file employees

4. Infectious disease control

We are taking the following measures for prevention of infectious diseases to protect the health of employees and their families.

  1. Influenza vaccinations
  2. Vaccinations before going abroad
  3. COVID vaccinations

5. Follow-ups for employees assigned overseas and workers at construction project offices

We conduct regular follow-ups on employees who are posted outside of main offices or branches as well as overseas.

  1. Implementing regular monitoring through patrols and questionnaires

Regular health checkups are conducted at local medical facilities for employees stationed abroad along with accompanying dependents. If the standard of local medical care is judged to be inadequate for such examinations, employees who wish to may also receive an annual medical checkup in a neighboring country, where the standard of medical care is considered to be adequate, or in Japan.

6. Others

We are implementing the following measures to raise health awareness among employees in their daily lives.

  1. Providing healthy menus at the employee cafeteria (Tokyo Main Office)
  2. Displaying calories, allergies, and other nutritional information in the employee cafeteria
  3. Participating in the “Everyone walk together (Arukatsu),” organized by the All Japan National Health Insurance Association of Engineering and Construction

We have also introduced a cafeteria system where employees can choose the menu and quantity that suits them.

Ⅲ. Current situation and results ①

1. Recognized as a Certified Health & Productivity Management Outstanding Organization

Since 2019, Takenaka has been continuously certified as a Health & Productivity Management Outstanding Organization by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry. This also included the same recognition in 2023*.
Moving forward, we will continue to accelerate and strengthen our health management initiatives.

  • The Health & Productivity Management Outstanding Organization System honors large companies as well as small- to medium-size enterprises that practice especially excellent health management based on initiatives tailored to local health issues and those promoted by the Japan Heath Council.

Ⅳ. Current situation and results ②

1. Health management status

By working to enhance health management and improve awareness of self-management through the use of external certification systems and collaboration inside and outside of the company, we are continually implementing measures that aid in improving health. Ⅴ. Promoting health management

Based on a strong commitment by management and autonomous participation by employees, we are preparing environments where employees can be healthy and active, both physically and mentally, as a foundation for “securing, developing, and activating diverse human resources” and “promoting diversity.” We will further promote health management by realizing productivity improvement and work style reforms along with working to improve work-life balance and employee engagement throughout the company.
